Brilliant First Visit
We booked to eat here after a day at Longleat Safari Park because of the Gluten Free offerings plus wheelchair accessible facilities. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely return when we are next in the area.

We found this pub on our way home from holiday. What a find! Excellent food (the pie was especially good), terrific staff in a picturesque village. What more could you ask for?

Arrived here spontaneously on our way to another place in the country for a quick tipple and were blown away by the service, such polite and friendly staff, even made us an Espresso Martini (off menu) as we were on holiday
If we’re ever here again we’ll be sure to visit!

Had a meal here tonight to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Both food and service were excellent, and can wholeheartedly recommend the pub. Better food than many restaurants, and the owner really cares about all aspects of the pub.

Pub History
This is the third incarnation of The Walnut Tree Inn. The original building was built around 1840 and stood until 1938. At this time, it was one of many pubs in Mere. In recent years, The Old Ship Hotel was redeveloped but the Grade II listed Talbot Hotel, now The George Inn, and The Butt of Sherry which opened circa 1894, are still in existence today.
The current Walnut Tree Inn was built in 2005 and has been extended twice to incorporate two lovely eating areas. The Glass Room at the front and the Conservatory to the rear offer additional heated indoor / outdoor dining spaces suitable for events that can be used at all times of the year.
